Magnesium: which form absorbs best?

Magnesium oxide is cheap and mostly passes straight through. Citrate absorbs better but draws water into the bowel. Glycinate is bound to an amino acid, which is why it is both well absorbed and gentle. The label rarely explains this, so the price difference looks arbitrary when it is not.
